We will also be hosting our second "Charlotte International Cryptologic Symposium".
The 2012 Crypto Symposium was a tremendous success with with many international participants. The news of another Charlotte Crypto Symposium has already been spreading through the crypto world and the list of attendees and presenters is growing and it should prove to be another stellar event. The Crypto Symposium will start at 9am Thursday and
run through until Saturday lunch time.
We will be having THREE auctions this year, along with the regular Friday afternoon auction
we will auctioning the estate collection of Ted Bryan retired chief engineer for WBT,
plus our regular Saturday morning "Radio Rescue" end of swap auction.

Each conference registration grants you access to "Antique Radio Charlotte, the Tube Collectors meeting Thursday morning and the Crypto Symposium.

Again this year we'll have all the meals as last year,
starting with the "Kickoff Luncheon" Thursday at noon, our soup and sandwich buffet for dinner Thursday evening, breakfast and lunch will be available on the hotel food cart in the registration tent Friday, the Banquet Friday evening, breakfast again from the food cart Saturday morning, and ending up with the Conference Wrap-Up luncheon
early Saturday afternoon.

There will be almost 3 full days of activities starting with our Program / Forums on Thursday afternoon and evening, our giant flea market on Friday morning followed that afternoon by our Old Equipment Auction.

The flea market continues on Saturday when we welcome the public with FREE admission.
Late Saturday morning we'll have our famous "Radio Rescue" end of meet auction with bargains aplenty.

Saturday morning will also include the judging and awarding of prizes for entries in our Old Equipment Contest.

Again this year everyone that pays registration for this conference
receives a one year membership in the Carolinas Chapter of the AWA.

To make your hotel reservations contact the Sheraton directly
at 704-392-1200.
Be sure to ask for the Special "Antique Radio Charlotte" conference
room rate which is just $91 per night. The nornal room rate is $199.

Our conference site, the Sheraton Charlotte Airport Hotel has been acclaimed by many
as the finest hotel in the radio collecting hobby.
The staff at the Sheraton bend over backwards to make sure everything goes as good as possible for our event. You only have to look back to 2009 with a week of heavy rain
to see what the folks at the Sheraton will do for us.

In the event of really bad weather, we can and will move the entire flea market inside.

We look forward to seeing you
at the conference in March 2014

For 2014 we will hosting our second
Charlotte International Cryptologic Symposium

This is a group of collectors and historians of crypto equipment. You might remember seeing our friend Dr. Jim Oram here with his WW2 German Enigma code machine. This is the type of equipment they're interested in, except not just German enigma machines, but anything used to encode and decode messages some going all the way back to Roman time.
The Crypto Conference will again take place in the Jr. Ballroom.
Folks here for the Crypto meeting will be expected to pay registration (admission) just like everyone else. So one conference registration will cover both events.
The tables in the crypto room are for both display of selling. Folks there just for display will get table space free, those there to sell will be expected to pay for tables just like antique radio flea market vendors, ie $30 per table in advance, $35 at the door.
Additional tables are $20 each. And the same rule applies
for crypto vendors as antique radio vendors,

Ted Bryan
estate auction

Ted Bryan was a broadcast radio engineer retiring as WBT’s chief
engineer just a few years ago and still working part time up until his sudden
death at age 80.

As he approached retirement, he planed and built a workshop where he could increase his activities in vintage radio and audio electronics.  He assembled a collection of very fine test equipment from the 1940’s up to the 1980’s – His machinist tool chests were a wonder to behold with all tools laid out in the drawers like surgical tools.

Ted had just completed the highest quality installation of a 1940’s vintage RCA 1 KW AM broadcast transmitter as the centerpiece of his shop but alas it never was put on the air in the ham bands; just working into a dummy load…

Another interesting project was completely stripping down a Philco 38-116 High Fidelity broadcast receiver to bare chassis and rewiring to look as new and working on the bench at the time of his death.

Volunteers spent over 150 hours sorting through literally one or two tons of parts that would be prime sources for anyone wanting to build vintage TX, RX or audio equipment.

Look carefully at the spread sheet for items to be available in the auction and then go on-line to see what these items have brought in recent times…  You are likely to see items that will sell at our auction for considerably less.

While the transmitter mentioned above was definitely too big an item to go to auction, there are still many interesting items on offer for those that make it a point to be at the auction to be held on Thursday evening at the conference…

see photos and a list of the lots to be auctioned.
